3D formats and rendering

More grading...

Renderman clone: Aqsis. Still want to learn some basics of renderman! Never got enough time while at JPL to try it out as we were having some license hosting issues that I didn't figure out. What exactly does REYES mean?

Look out... more standards work on 3D file formats. Will this be as bad as VRML standardization??? Please no! TC43 - Universal 3D Format - See also: 3D Industry Forum. If I lived in the San Jose area, I would definitely be going to these meetings.

Spatial tools, Scripting seismic processing

IEEE papers are due by tomorrow. We are getting very close. The paper is looking much better.

MySQL spatial - could be pretty cool. How does this stack up to other databases doing spacial stuff?

Java based GeoTool2...? Doesn't seem to read many formats and none that I've ever used. But still could be cool. That is if I were a real Java programmer.

I need to write an objC reader for the Lamont and SIO pmag formats for Jeff.

The Driscoll "Black Hole Lab" now has a working script for reading tapes. No more cut and paste for people! However, we found out that Jeff B had done this ages ago. Oh well. Thanks Becka for testing it! Now I need to implement the email notification when it is done function.

Chirp scripting, Video Codecs, Python Mac Graphics

Yesterday, I wrote a little bash script to automate reading STAR/Segy/chirp tapes one whole tape at a time. No more pasting and renumbering. Hopefully Becka will give it a test and a thumbs up.

Video codec shootout. Trying to pick a codec when I was working with Aurelio at JPL was a bit frustrating. Each has its own drawback and some just plain sucked. 3ivx generally gave the best results but people have to download the codec and it's not for all platforms.

Python and Mac CoreGraphics!
